Farm Favorites

Farm favorites—practical tools, chore boots, and livestock supplies we rely on every day.

We get asked a lot about the tools and supplies we use around the farm. This page is a running list of practical, no-nonsense items that have actually earned a place here. Nothing sponsored, nothing fancy — just things that work for us.

Farm Chore Apparel

Baby wearing carrier used during daily farm chores

These are chore apparel choices we reach for often — nothing specialty, just dependable gear that gets used.

Around here, farm chores start early. This carrier let us keep babies close while still doing the work — feeding animals, walking fence lines, and handling daily farm life. Comfortable, secure, and hands-free, it made it easy to raise kids right alongside the animals. Because on a farm, you’re never too young to get dirt on your boots… even if you’re being carried.

These insulated winter work gloves are what we reach for when it’s cold but the work still has to get done. They’re warm without being bulky, flexible enough to actually use your hands, and tough enough to handle daily farm chores. We go through a lot of gloves, and this style has held up better than most during cold weather work.

These are our go-to everyday work gloves and get used constantly. They’re comfortable, durable, and hold up well to regular farm use without falling apart quickly. When we need gloves that can handle fencing, hauling, and general chores, this is the pair we keep coming back to.

We originally wore Dryshod and Muck boots, but switched to these because they’ve performed just as well — if not better — for a noticeably lower price. They’re waterproof, comfortable for long days, and hold up well to mud, wet ground, and daily farm work. After using them regularly, we haven’t felt the need to go back to the higher-priced brands.

Livestock Care

Caring for livestock means dealing with weather, mess, and routine work every day. These are the basic items we rely on to keep animals fed and watered reliably, without over-complicating things. These are some of the tools we use to care for our livestock. See how we care for our livestock.

Freezing weather is just part of farm life here, and keeping water from turning into solid ice is non-negotiable. This water heater for water troughs is the one we rely on during winter. It’s held up through repeated freezes and saves us from hauling water multiple times a day.

A good feeder seems simple until you’ve dealt with tipped-over feed, waste, or animals standing in it. This is the style of feeder we use to keep feed accessible without turning it into a mess. It’s practical, durable, and gets daily use.

We keep these rubber feeder pans on hand for dogs, chickens, and general farm use because they don’t freeze and crack like plastic bowls. They’re flexible, durable, and easy to clean, which makes them a simple, reliable option for everyday feeding and watering.

FARM TOOLS

These are the basic tools and supplies we keep in rotation for everyday farm work. Nothing specialty or overbuilt — just practical items that get used regularly and have proven dependable over time. If something earns a spot here, it’s because it actually gets used, not because it looks good on paper.

Sometimes the question isn’t whether a fence is meant to keep livestock in… or feral children contained. These portable panels have been one of the most useful “tools” we own — easy to move, quick to set up, and perfect for temporary containment. Whether it’s animals that need fresh grass or kids who need a safe space while chores are getting done, having fencing that moves with you makes farm life a whole lot easier.

Fencing pliers are one of those tools you reach for constantly, and a bad pair will wear you out fast. These are the ones we keep handy for everyday fence work — pulling staples, cutting wire, twisting, and general repairs. They’re solid, comfortable to use, and hold up well to regular farm use. We literally have a pair in every vehicle, tractor, shed, barn, and tool belt.

A fence stretcher is one of those tools you don’t think much about until you really need it. This is the one we use when tightening wire, making repairs, or straightening sagging sections, and it makes the job noticeably easier. It grips well, holds tension where you need it, and saves a lot of frustration compared to trying to muscle wire by hand.

This pancake air compressor is one of the most used tools on the farm. It is a tool that ends up being more useful than you expect. We use it for airing up tires, running small air tools, and quick jobs around the farm where hauling out larger equipment isn’t worth it. It’s compact, easy to move, and reliable enough to grab when you just need something that works without fuss.

This Milwaukee utility knife is one of those tools that never stays put because everyone ends up carrying one. Even the younger farmers keep one in their pocket, and it gets used constantly for everything from feed bags and baling twine to quick repairs. It’s easy to carry, simple to use one-handed, and sharp when you need it — the kind of tool that quietly becomes part of everyday farm life.
